In some games, the maximum allowed bet is twice as large in the final betting interval as it is in the initial betting interval. In other variations, the pot is split between the highest and lowest hands.

Poker is also known by several other names, including stud poker, draw poker, and razz. The earliest forms of the game are believed to have been 20-card versions. A full 52-card English deck was introduced after 1875. A wild card was also introduced around that time. The most common poker variant is the seven-card stud, which requires the best five-card hand.

In the U.K., a version of the game is commonly referred to as “three-card brag”. The game was originally based on the game Primero. The game was popular during the American Revolution.
